Catchpole & Rye is one of the South East’s leading luxury bath manufacturers and retailers, with showrooms in Ashford, Tunbridge Wells and London. They have a long history of creating beautiful period baths, showers, taps and sanitary ware, with most of their products hand-made in their Kent foundry.
The business challenge
Catchpole & Rye were referred to Supersonic Playground towards the end of 2016 by our friends at Sleeping Giant Media. They were frustrated with their previous site, which had been built using a bespoke Content Management System (CMS), meaning they were struggling to make even the most basic content changes. As a result, the site was challenging to use, was beginning to look quite dated, and didn’t align with their high-end, luxury brand values. They were seeking a new site that delivered increased sales and better reflected the experience of visiting one of their luxurious showrooms.
The solution we delivered
To help Catchpole & Rye achieve their digital goals, we proposed a completely new custom WordPress and WooCommerce website focusing on a vastly improved user experience and a more elegant and luxurious visual style. The new website also needed to provide a seamless user journey that leveraged their detailed content and beautiful product photography, which had previously been missing or underutilised. To convey the lifestyle experience of owning a Catchpole & Rye product, we introduced two areas to the site, ‘Collections’ and ‘Inspiration’, which use journals, galleries and more contextual ‘real world’ photography to help users visualise the products and provide social proof.
Visual design was also a key part of the project; the new site needed to encapsulate their products’ elegant and luxurious nature while securing trust and confidence so that users felt comfortable making big-ticket purchases online. Our creative team made whitespace and high-quality photography the centre of the site’s visual language, with careful considerations around typography and transitions.
Overall, our team delivered a completely new custom hybrid brochure and eCommerce website that leveraged WordPress and WooCommerce to ensure the Catchpole & Rye team could effortlessly update and maintain the website post-launch.
Since the website launched in 2018, both Supersonic Playground and the client have been inundated with positive feedback about the look and feel of the site. Catchpole & Rye also reported a significant increase in showroom enquiries resulting from the website’s launch, and they continue to update and grow the site internally.
The new website is the embodiment of luxury and acts as a visual brochure and an online shop. The project proves that by investing in a high-quality website, with careful consideration for experience, visuals, and content, even the most expensive items can be sold online.
