Founded in 2012, Inspiring Impact is a collaborative programme supported by NPC and was launched as a resource hub to support charities and volunteers to measure and manage their impact. By improving the way they measure their impact, charities can better understand their effectiveness, which can ultimately lead to better funding and improved effectiveness with whatever cause they specialise in.
The business challenge
Having already worked with NPC and established a strong and long-term relationship with them, we were honoured when in 2017, we were tasked with launching a new website for Inspiring Impact. Since its launch in 2012, their existing website had become bloated, outdated, and provided a confusing experience for the user and an un-manageable admin area for the client.
The solution we delivered
Our solution covered two key phases of work. For the first phase, we conducted a full user research piece complete with telephone interviews and card sorting exercises. This identified three primary personas for the client: top-level think tanks, mid-level charities and grass-roots charities, each of whom required different levels of interaction and explanation. Our work included an updated brand, visual style and the development of an entirely new WordPress website which gave the Inspiring Impact team greater control over their content and allowed them to continue to manage the site in-house, without the need for further development support.
A year later, we were pleased to hear that the new website launch had helped the Inspiring Impact team secure National Lottery funding. This meant we could begin work on a bigger, broader second phase of work to expand the new website further, amalgamating another sister project, the Impact Management Programme. This project involved overhauling the user experience and visual style further to create a broader hub of resources and tools for impact measurement and management. Our work in the second phase also included the redevelopment of two interactive tools that help charities measure their existing impact and recommend where they can improve.
Again, the website needed to be user-friendly, focusing on resources while ensuring the Inspiring Impact team could effortlessly maintain and scale the new site.
Since the second launch of the Inspiring Impact website, the client has confidently managed their three personas’ wants and needs by publishing regular content as they continue to support charities across the UK. We have received positive feedback from both the client and users telling us that the website has become an established and invaluable tool to help charities of all sizes better understand and improve their impact.
