Virgin Care is a major healthcare provider in the UK, serving more than six million people since its formation in 2006. They provide a wide range of services, including walk-in and community healthcare centres, many of which are in partnership with the NHS.
The business challenge
When Virgin Care approached us in late 2017, they were faced with the challenge of maintaining 30 ‘service’ websites for the various health care centres and walk-in clinics they oversee. Many of these sites were already powered by WordPress using the same theme, but this gave them limited flexibility.
As a result, Virgin Care was looking for a digital partner who could design and develop a completely new look and feel for the organisation that could be rolled out across their 30 service centre websites.
The solution we delivered
We worked closely with the Virgin Care marketing team to design and develop a completely new, high-impact custom WordPress theme that they could easily roll out to their service websites. The new ‘theme’ was designed to work around existing content, making the transition as easy as possible.
To give the Virgin Care team greater flexibility around branding, we created a feature in the admin area that allows them to effortlessly switch from either the core Virgin Care brand, the NHS brand, or another third-party brand. In addition, we delivered bespoke CMS training to the client’s internal teams to walk them through the editing process, and we received glowing feedback about how simple it was.
The team was so impressed with how much flexibility the new theme gave them that they commissioned us to enhance it further and use it for their corporate site: www.virgincare.co.uk. As part of the project, we added a raft of new features, including a modular page builder containing a suite of editorially designed modules, giving them even more flexibility when creating new pages.
Virgin Care’s new custom WordPress theme has given their internal team a new level of flexibility and control, inspiring them to use the design in new and exciting ways. The new site and modular builder also give the team complete control when designing and building new pages, reducing their reliance on us for ongoing maintenance and updates. Overall, the new project was a success and continues to deliver the client increased awareness and conversions.
